One of the coolest birds I have ever seen. My third grade class enjoyed this video very much, I hope you do to.

Texas: That's Right, They're Not From Texas
graphic by: Matt Stiles, Jacob Villanueva
An article posted on the Texas Tribune website today highlighted the fact that a majority of doctors being licensed by the Texas Medical Board are not being educated in the United States. Now, your first reaction may have been similar to mine. "What, Texas is giving medical licenses to undereducated foreigners!!!", luckily for us, that is not the case. According to the article there are strict policies and procedures that are followed in order to gain a license from a foreign school.
Now I must admit, I still don't feel to confident about certain countries such as Rwanda, Pakistan, or especially Iran...being that their countries are either unstable or very anti-western, but for the most part I trust the countries that are shelling out doctors to Texas. Interestingly enough, India has a total of 149 doctors licensed in Texas so far...the US has 10. (Check out the map by clicking here)
That brings me to my main question, why are so few American doctors seeking a license in Texas? We know that the training is solid, we know that they will be held to very high standards, so why aren't we recruiting students graduating right here in America? Well, I'm sure there are a lot of reasons, but I think that we should push to license doctors that graduate from institutions here first, and not give so many breaks to our foreign counterparts. Being an American citizen with an American medical degree should put you at the top of the list.
So I guess the question is, "Does Texas want you anyway?"

I read this article that a friend of mine posted, Graduation/Spring always seems like a time of reflection for a lot of people.

SN&M: Social Media Hubs
I recently stumbled across the idea of a social media hub, by recently I mean earlier today. At first I didn't really understand what the use would be, especially since all I was doing was reading about them. After further investigation I realized that, for people who have numerous social media outlets, these things only made sense.
Basically you pick which service provider best suits you. (I chose flavors.me because I liked the simple layout and attention to design) Then you create an account, and link your social networking sites to the page. I had my flavors.me site created in less than 10 minutes, and in my opinion it looks great. I don't know about the other sites, but flavors.me offers a $20/year premium account that gives you more interactive layouts, tracking features, and a specified domain...again I chose it for the simplicity so the free account is perfect for me.
As social media becomes more prevalent in our lives, I'm glad to see that there are people figuring out how to link our social identities together...it is much easier to keep track of things that way. Give these sites a shot, and check mine out while you are at it.

My News, For You.
Welcome to the launch of my (3 Time) revamped blog. I do a lot of surfing around through a lot of different mediums and I decided that it was time that I took all of the things that interested me and put them on a blog. Here's how this is going to work:
(1) For the most part this will be different news stories found from numerous sources. I will write my commentary on the piece, and then place the source as a link (in case you wanted to read the original story). So that you can decide whether or not you are interested in the story I will tag every headline with one of the following:
-US News
-World News
-Texas
-Tech
-Opinion
-SN&M (Social Networking & Media)
-Weird
-Green
-Education
-Other
If I need more titles, I will create them as needed.
(2) I have linked this blog to my Posterous account (www.posterous.com/justincollard), so any untagged and random posts will have come from that.
I want this blog to have a good mix of news and random fun, I hope you enjoy! As always, please feel free to subscribe and leave comments.
